Stewards of Irreplaceable Land (SOIL)

A non-profit organization dedicated to linking
Canadian farmers with young folks wanting to work
and learn on an organic farm using sustainable practices.
SOIL apprentices learn the skills they need to grow
food organically and in return, make a commitment to
one farmer. Apprentices submit a two page application,
read short descriptions of the farms in the program,
request full listing then contacts the farmer to set up
a farm visit. Most apprenticeships are for over eight
weeks, many lasting months, usually receiving room and
board or taking produce home with them. Often they
receive a small stipend. Application fee for apprentices
and farmers is $30.
